DEPARTMENT OF MATHS

HISTORY

Initially the department offered Pre-degree course and Degree course in Mathematics. Statistics and Physics were the subsidiary subjects for the 13., Mathematics main course. Computer programming was chosen as the elective subject. The revised syllabus was introduced for BSc Mathematics course from June 1999 onwards. Internal Assessment became a part of evaluation in the revised scheme. The Pre-degree course was delinked in the year 1999. In the year 2010. the University of Kerala introduced the Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) for the undergraduate courses. For the First degree programme in Mathematic, besides the core course in Mathematics, the complementary courses are Statistics and Physics. The elective course offered for the frost batch of students under CHCSS was Fuzzy Mathematics. Later it was changed to Complex integration for the subsequent hatches because of its practical applications. The Department offers B.Sc degree programme in Mathematics since 1968. From the very beginning. Statistics, one of the subsidiary subjects, was being taught by the members of Mathematics Faculty. In 2008, the Government created a post of Lecturer in Statistics and a person with M., in Statistics was appointed as per rules. for handling the Statistics classes. In the year 2010. for the first time in the history of the department of Mathematics. a student of this department. Arathy R.K bagged the first rank in the B.Sc Mathematics Examination of the University of Kerala. She scored 99.8% marks in total with 100% marks in Mathematics main and Statistics Subsidiary.•he year 2012 added four new feathers to the cap of glory of the department. Ilse first rank went to Bintu Syarn who scored a record of 100% marics.The Second Rank was shared by Manjula B and Siji S J each scoring 99.8% and third rank was bagged by Shamna S with 99.5% marks. The students also brought various trophies to the department by winning quiz competitions hoth at the University and State level. In view of the commendable achievements. the Department was presented with the Principal's Foot Rolling Trophy for the best department in the year 2012. Students of this department are encouraged to share their problems (both personal and academic) with the teachers and this imparts a high level of confidence in them. The students consider this department and faculty' as one of their own and they continue to keep their attachment live through the Alumni Association which is very much active. They are organizing get together and meetings all through the years. It is noteworthy to mention that the laurels achieved by the department is through the dedicated and collective effort put in by the faculty and students. It is expected that these trends will continue in the future years also.
