HISTORY

The opening of Sree Narayana College, Sivagiri, Varkala on 7th July, 1964 marked the fulfillment of a long cherished dream of Sree Narayana Guru, one of the greatest social reformers India has ever seen. The Department of Commerce started in 1979 by offering two courses, Pre- degree and B Com Degree Course specialized in finance. Prof.K.Anirudhan was the first Head of the Department. A restructured B Com Hotel Management & Catering course in the semester system was started in the department in 1999. The Department is well furnished and well equipped with spacious classrooms, which are well ventilated and adequately furnished. The department has two ICT enabled classrooms, library facility with 1573 books at its credit and computer facility for online reference. For B Com Hotel Management Catering Degree we have a full fledged, well equipped and hygienic kitchen lab for giving practical’s in food production and an air conditioned model restaurant to give training in service. The guest room of the college is utilized for giving practical in housekeeping, the reception counter is used for training in front office management. Altogether the Department took several promising steps for providing quality education and guidance to the students for their overall development. The department has 6 permanent faculty, 1 part time faculty and two guest faculties. Four teachers are PhD holders among the full time teaching faculty.
