HISTORY
The department of chemistry was officially established in 1964 three years later after inauguration of the college, making our department 56 years old in 2020. Our founder manager Sri. R. Shankar who was a graduate in Chemistry took keen interest in the formation of the department. Department of chemistry was pioneered under the headship of Dr .C. P Nampoothiripadu. The Department was first upgraded to UG department during 1968-1969 and started offering degree courses for the first time, according to the syllabus of university of Kerala.The forthcoming years chemistry curriculum began to expand significantly, and the number of students and faculty increased. Later in the year 2001 the department was upgraded as PG department and started offering MSc Analytical Chemistry.. The Chemistry Department runs one of the most rigorous and prestigious M.Sc (PG) programme in the University. We have MSc and BSc degree with newly revised PG and UG programme.Distinguished teachers like Dr. Nampoothiripdu, Dr.Sundaresan,Dr,Vamadevan, Dr.Sulekha, Dr.Vasundharan, Dr.G,Raveendran, Prof.M.Girija, Dr.Sudheeshkumar, Dr.Mohanakumar, Dr.V.S.Thampidas were some of the former heads of the department. The Department has a great tradition of producing many Rank holders in the University Examinations. Alumni Association is actively initiating several programmes of student support and progress such as, sponsoring scholarships ,cash awards and Improving infrastructure facilities. Formal lectures will be made more effective and useful by providing students with synopses of lectures and bibliography. Besides lectures, there will be assignments, guided library work, seminars, group discussions, projects, etc. Audio-visual aids, models, laboratory work, workshop and field experience will also form part of the teaching process. To make teaching more effective and intensive, tutorials will be arranged. These tutorials will also serve as a feed-back for the teacher, enable him to evaluate the students analytical ability and progress and promote staff student interaction. Now the department has currently 10 faculty members and all of them actively involved in teaching and learning process. Members of the faculty are renowned as thinkers and contributors to the discipline of chemistry and as specialists in their respective domains of specialisation. This is evident in the large number of invitations received to participate in national conferences and workshops. Chemistry department faculty members have many publications in some of the most prestigious peer-reviewed journals in the discipline. Well qualified, experienced and dedicated teachers: We have one Associate Prof and nine Asst. Professors.The list of faculty as on 31.03.2020 is given below
