DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY

HISTORY

The Department of History was established in November 1998. The First year classes were started on 30th November, 1998. Dr. K KKusuman, Professor and Head of the Department of History, University of Kerala, Kariavattom, inaugurated the course. The first Head of the Department was Prof. R. Hareendra Babu. Smt. C Meera, Smt. R Latha Devi MLA, Sri. R Sasi and Sri. Manojkumar were the other members of the teaching staff. The first batch had 21 students only.

Objectives, Advantages and Values

The study of History helps a lot to promote self understanding, give proper conception of time and space, enable the pupils assess the values and achievements of their own age, teach tolerance, broaden the intellect, outlook and moral principles, etc.; helps to resolve contemporary social and individual problems, foster national feelings; develops international understanding, etc. This discipline also has so many values like disciplinary, informative, educational, ethical, cultural, political, nationalistic, international and vocational.
