DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH

HISTORY

The Department of English was established in 1964 . Two batches passed out with a BA Functional English Degree from 1997-2003 under the add-on Course on Communicative English. A short term Certificate Course in Communicative English , ‘ English Language Skill Acquisition Course’ (ELSAC) was offered in 2016. The Department conducted a National Workshop on Creative Writing in 2015.

The current department engages classes in Part I English which is a compulsory component of all the degree programmes. Internal Assessments, Presentations by students, Microteaching, Remedial Teaching, Video Tutorials and Blogs are some of the tools adapted by the department to enhance the productivity of teaching -learning method. All the faculty members in the department are IT- enabled, providing digital and online sessions.

Out of the 4 current permanent faculty members one holds an MPhil degree and one has submitted her PhD thesis in Education. One faculty is a member of Board of Studies in Journalism. All the faculty members has made paper presentations in International , National and Regional Seminar and one has international journal publications. The members of the department has collaborated with the nearby schools in extension activities- taking sessions, providing books and judging literary events.
